[HBANZ RAMBO] HaxHost Room! - Winky - 29-08-2020

TL: DR - What is this?

Rambo is an elimination game based on a set of rounds. Players will compete in a free-for-all and the last man standing is the winner. This room can entertain 10 users at a time, with a maximum room limit of 20.
 


How does it work?

Upon joining the room, you may notice the "lobby" - which is the wrestling ring. You can type "+" to join. The game will not start unless a minimum of 5 people have entered, otherwise if the player tries to trigger the game by entering the ring, the room will reset when the 1 minute countdown is up. If enough players have entered, an appropriate map size will automatically be loaded. Players have 3 "lives", after which they eliminated from the rounds. After each elimination, the map will scale accordinly until it is 1v1, after which the winner is declared.
 


What does the bot do?

The bot will record each player's lives in their avatar. They are automatically adjusted as goals are scored.
 


What else can it do?
  • Enter "-" to remove yourself from the room
  • It will detect leaving players and adjust map size
  • It displays number of lives after each goal
  • It can support 2-12 players
  • The server is hosted in Singapore, so players internationally and locally will get decent ping!

New updates:
 
  1. Updated lobby screen (as seen in OP header)
  2. Expanded to accommodate up to 12-man
  3. If not yet seen, there's an awards announcement at the end of the game
  4. Login/logout feature available - but nothing more than this for now
  5. Minimum players for a game reduced from 3 to 2 in case people want to play 1 vs 1
  6. Game initiated as soon as you enter the lobby (with "+"), rather than having to kick the ball first
Planned updates
 
  1. Stats/awards recording to hbanz.org for users logged in
  2. Expansion to 14-man and beyond (map size will remain same as it is already a bit large)
  3. Save replay function

This was fun as, but why was it based in Singapore? Lag was terrible

We understand your concern regarding the latency issues you have experienced in our servers.

HBANZ takes pride in providing top quality servers to all of its players. This sometimes means hosting rooms in locations that are accessible to a diverse background of players, which may compromise the low ping you are used to enjoying in our 100% free-range locally hosted rooms. However, in return we have noticed greater activity when using internationally servers - both during peak hours and well into night. As an example, the room was active until 3:45am your time today. Finally, for a game mode like Rambo, we believe providing unparalleled ping is not the top priority, but rather the quantity of players along with a playable level of lag.

We would like to extend our apologies for the inconvenience caused and highlight our commitment to offering you with the best service we can.

Good stuff Winky, very fun to play and meet players from Asia.
You should also consider creating a SpaceBounce room for Singapore.

The waiting room is pretty cool as well.

Hi all,

New updates as of 6th September 2020:
  1. Stats are now logged to HBANZ. These are the number of awards you get and the total number of shots. The initial size of the Rambo game is also recorded so that stats came be grouped later by size when displayed.
  2. Blood splatter effect on the final map (to be added to normal shots and eliminations as well later on)
  3. Some of you have complained about people allying. We have listened to you and added a new private messaging system! Type the user ID with a "#" and enter the message. For example: "#2 hello" will send the message "hello" to user ID #2. To know someones ID, type "#" in the chat and select a player from the menu (hit tab) and then type your message.
  4. Introduced a spamming filter to prevent too much spam given the popularity of the room. This applies to regular chat, private messaging, and people joining and entering the lobby (+ & - spam). The spam applies more heavily to private message (i.e. you will be timed out quicker when spamming in PM).
  5. Revamp of the shooting detection system. Previously if someone accidentally shoots himself with a single kick while trying to save, the original shooter is not credited. Now the "second last kicker" is detected and they will receive credit for forcing the goal. Kicking twice before own goaling will not credit any shooter.
  6. Clumsy award is removed. This is because it is likely people are tied for this, as we have seen a lot of 1 or 2 goals (max 3 of course), so there is no point awarding someone when another player is tried.
Future updates:
  1. Page to display all stats (currently under construction). Note that stats have been reset to accommodate a few other features and recorded data, but we have no plans to reset them from now on going forward.
  2. Save function (if still required, but I think not).

wont the pm function make it easier to team? 

can you also introduce some sort of bounty feature? Example would be if someone is playing ultra safe it puts a bounty on their head (people get an incentive like extra life for getting them)
